Cambodian Health Minister Praises Japan's Active Role in Modernizing Healthcare System

Minister of Health Professor Chheang Ra has deemed the Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the Japanese government as having made a significant contribution to strengthening Cambodia-Japan health cooperation and promoting the development of the healthcare system and human resource training, aiming to achieve universal health coverage. The Minister's remarks were made on September 14, during a working meeting with a delegation from the Japanese Senate, led by Mr. FURUKAWA TOSHIHARU, along with representatives from the Japanese Embassy and JICA, at the Ministry of Health. On this occasion, Minister Professor Chheang Ra expressed his profound gratitude to the Japanese government and its people for their active participation through ODA in the construction and modernization of Cambodia's health infrastructure, including national and provincial hospitals. He also commended the technical cooperation in developing the capacity of healthcare personnel and in providing continuous training, which directly addresses the pillars of the health strategic plan. Furthermore, Cambodia has requested Japan to continue supporting efforts to reduce healthcare service disparities, transform regional hospitals into advanced treatment centers, and develop a digital health system to achieve universal health coverage by 2030. The Ministry of Health has reiterated its commitment to implementing all Japanese ODA with high transparency and efficiency.
