Cambodia Sends Two Doctoral Students to Japan for Advanced Studies Under ASEAN-Japan Collaboration

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – On the afternoon of September 2, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, met with two Cambodian students who have been awarded scholarships for doctoral studies in Japan under the AUN/SEED-Net-JICA program. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport also attended the meeting. During the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Hang Chuon Naron praised and congratulated the two scholarship recipients for their diligent efforts in their studies, which led to their selection for this prestigious doctoral program. He advised the students to adhere strictly to discipline and ethics, and to strive to absorb new knowledge and research experiences from Japan. He particularly emphasized the importance of utilizing digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) effectively and responsibly in their studies. Concurrently, the Deputy Prime Minister urged the students to prioritize their health by preparing themselves to adapt to the new living environment, dietary habits, and climate in Japan. He also encouraged them to enhance national prestige by sharing Cambodia's rich culture and traditions with their international peers. The two scholarship recipients will pursue advanced studies in transportation engineering and urban planning at Yokohama National University, and in food science and technology at Kyushu University, respectively, as part of the AUN/SEED-Net-JICA scholarship project.
