Cambodian Young Parliamentarian Highlights Peace and Human Rights at IPU Conference in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Sept 7, 2026 (KPT) — A Cambodian lawmaker has shared his country’s experience in pursuing peace and urged greater protection for young people affected by conflict at an international parliamentary gathering in Uzbekistan. Rofi Osman took part in the 12th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, a forum designed to help young lawmakers exchange experiences, strengthen cooperation and respond to emerging geopolitical challenges. Osman joined all six sessions of the conference, where he spoke about Cambodia’s peace process and stressed the importance of maintaining stability. He also called for stronger protection of youth rights during armed conflicts and greater resilience to climate change. The meeting concluded with the adoption of an outcome document reaffirming human rights as the foundation of dignity and security. Participants noted that the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals are under increasing pressure from armed conflicts, technological change, environmental crises and political uncertainty. The conference reaffirmed the role of parliaments in promoting and protecting human rights and urged young lawmakers to help address the challenges confronting their societies.
