British Businessman Found Stabbed to Death in Pattaya Villa; Wife Questioned

PATTAYA, Thailand – Police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old British businessman after he was found stabbed inside a luxury rental home in the Nongprue area, East Pattaya, on July 2, with his wife now being questioned as part of a possible homicide investigation. The property was described as a single-storey luxury house of around 80 square wah. Inside the bathroom of the bedroom, near the shower area, officers discovered the body of Mr. Thomas, 34, a British national and cannabis farm businessman operating in Banglamung, lying on his back. He had sustained a stab wound under the left rib cage from a sharp object. His body had been repositioned on a bed sheet, with a pillow placed under his head and a grey towel covering him. Large amounts of blood were found on the bedding, and police estimate he had been dead for at least six hours. Investigators also noted bloodstains throughout the house and signs consistent with a struggle. At the scene, officers also found the deceased’s wife, Ms. Isabelle, 21, a British national, sitting near the body in an emotional and disoriented state. She appeared intoxicated and possibly under the influence of cannabis. Police observed a cut wound on her fingertip. She reportedly gave inconsistent statements, claiming she suffered from depression and panic disorder and insisting that her husband had harmed himself. She later led officers to a 50-centimetre-long machete-style knife found in the kitchen sink area. The weapon appeared to have been washed, with no visible blood remaining. Due to inconsistencies in her statement and her condition, police have taken her in for further questioning while forensic teams collect fingerprints and DNA evidence. A British friend of the deceased, identified as Mr. Charlie, 33, said he was the first person to discover the scene. He explained that a business partner in the United States had contacted him earlier, asking him to check on the couple after growing concerned. Upon arriving at the property, he began recording video footage before entering the home, where he found blood inside and later the victim’s body in the bathroom, along with the wife nearby claiming the death was a self-inflicted act. He immediately alerted police. Neighbors told police the couple had only rented the property for about two weeks at a monthly rate of 85,000 baht. They reported frequent arguments between the pair. One neighbor said they heard dogs barking loudly around 10 p.m. the night before the incident, followed by unusual silence. Around 2 a.m., a delivery of dog food reportedly arrived, but no one answered the door. The following morning, the friend arrived and discovered the scene. Police have not ruled out any possibilities and are treating the case as a suspected homicide. The wife has been taken in for detailed interrogation, as forensic officers examine evidence including blood patterns, fingerprints, and CCTV footage from inside and around the property. Investigators also noted several inconsistencies, including the lack of an immediate emergency call and suspected movement of the victim’s body into the bathroom area. Separately, officers are also examining unusual objects found at the property, including several black Buddha statues placed outside the house, which have been the subject of local community discussion.
