PM Urges Dien Bien to Leverage Border, Aviation, Historic Legacy for Growth

In recent years, the application of science and technology has been playing an increasingly important role in agricultural production in the northwestern province of Dien Bien, helping improve productivity, product quality and sustainability. The Dien Bien provincial People's Committee on June 23 authorised a controlled pilot programme for digital technology-based products and services using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), targeting a flight safety rate of over 99% during the trial period. Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh urged policy beneficiary families to carry forward revolutionary traditions, serve as role models for younger generations, and steer their children to follow Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws and policies, contributing to a more prosperous and civilised province. Vietnam will continue working with the US in a constructive and cooperative spirit, while urging the US side to fully take into account the measures Vietnam has adopted when adjusting tariffs on Vietnamese goods, consistent with the actual situation and Vietnam's ongoing legislative and enforcement push. The DHL North Logistics Campus will provide direct access to the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Expressway, linking Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi, and Hai Phong Port, the largest deep-sea port in northern Vietnam, according to the company. Passenger throughput during the final four months of 2026 is forecast to reach around 816,000. With a coastline stretching nearly 189 kilometers, featuring a network of straits, bays, lagoons, and seaports with significant development potential, Dak Lak is well positioned to advance its marine economy, particularly through the harvesting, aquaculture, and processing of high-value seafood products. The trade office also highlighted Vietnam’s 100-million-strong consumer market, rising incomes and growing demand for processed, convenience and health-oriented food products. With its strategic location, Vietnam serves not only as a promising market but also as a gateway to Southeast Asia. When marine spatial governance is implemented through effective cross-sectoral coordination, strengthened by science and technology and supported by expanded international cooperation, the sea will become not only a resource to be exploited but also a long-term development space for the nation. For Vietnam, the current transition presents an opportunity to capitalise on its geo-economic advantages, extensive network of free trade agreements (FTAs) and improving investment climate to attract new investment, expand manufacturing and boost exports, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang. A comprehensive package of measures is needed to maintain and gradually expand Vietnam's trade surplus. This will provide a solid foundation for the agricultural sector to further strengthen its role as a pillar of the economy and make a more substantial contribution to Vietnam's overall economic growth. The country ranked fifth globally, second in Asia and first in Southeast Asia in wood and wood product exports, providing an important foundation for the industry to pursue modern, sustainable development and generate higher added value. China-Vietnam trade reached 305.6 billion CNY, a year-on-year increase of 28.3%, representing 83.9% of the total trade turnover through the border gate. During the 2026-2030 period, Vietnam will work to complete a specialised legal and institutional framework, as well as governance, management and supervision mechanisms for the IFC in line with international standards, ensuring transparency, safety and efficiency. Under the national plan for 2026–2030, Vietnam aims to develop at least 10 large strategic technology enterprises by 2030, each generating annual revenue of at least 1 billion USD, employing over 5,000 workers, operating a recognised science and technology organisation, and spending at least 3% of annual revenue on research and development. With the current trading band of +/- 5%, the ceiling rate applicable for commercial banks during the day is 26,547 VND/USD, and the floor rate 24,019 VND/USD. Argentina's Cordillera Brewing is seeking Vietnamese suppliers of products such as cashew nuts, black pepper, cinnamon, star anise, spices, natural rubber, rattan and bamboo products, handicrafts, and a range of processed food products. A young army of software engineers, competitive labour costs and deep mathematical skills have already made Vietnam a magnet for IT outsourcing. Companies like FPT Software and VNG have proved they can compete in international markets. These sectors demand relatively modest infrastructure spending while putting existing human capital to work. Experts say verified coffee-growing data is key to helping Vietnamese exporters meet sustainability requirements, secure market access and increase export value.
