Thai Passport Slips to 5th in ASEAN, Global Ranking Dips
The Thai passport has dropped two places to 63rd globally in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, and ranks fifth among ASEAN nations. Singapore maintains its position as having the world's most powerful passport.
The Thai passport has slipped two notches to 63rd in the global ranking of the recently released Henley Passport Index for 2026. Thai passport holders can travel to 77 destinations visa-free, less than half the number accessible to Singaporean passport holders, who can enter 192 destinations freely. Within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members, the Thai document was placed fifth. Malaysia ranked second, Brunei third, and East Timor fourth in the ASEAN region. Other ASEAN passports ranked lower: Indonesia at 68th, the Philippines at 72nd, Vietnam at 87th, Cambodia at 88th, Laos at 89th, and Myanmar at 91st. The annual Henley Passport Index calculates and ranks all 199 passports based on global access scores to 227 travel destinations. The Singapore passport has topped the world since 2004, the year it shared the crown with Japan. The Japanese passport dropped to second best in the last two years. Globally, the US passport was ranked 10th, while Iran was at 96th and Afghanistan at the bottom at 104th.
