Motorcycle Thief Dies in Crash While Fleeing Owner in Phnom Penh

A motorcycle thief died in a fatal accident in Phnom Penh on August 8, 2026, at approximately 6:50 AM. The incident occurred in the garden area in front of the Hotel Cambodiana, along Preah Sihanouk Boulevard in the Chaktomuk commune of Don Penh district. According to police reports, the unidentified suspect first stole a motorcycle belonging to a victim in the Russey Keo district. After committing the theft, the suspect fled the scene at high speed. However, the owner spotted the thief and pursued them. As the chase reached the area near the hotel in Don Penh district, the suspect, reportedly panicked, lost control of the motorcycle, crashing into the garden. The impact then caused the suspect to be thrown against an electricity box, resulting in fatal head injuries and immediate death at the scene. Following the incident, authorities from the Don Penh district police intervened and collaborated with officers from the Russey Keo district. The stolen motorcycle, the subject of the theft, has been handed over to the Russey Keo police for return to its rightful owner.
