Vietnam and Laos Strengthen Party and Political Work Cooperation in Military

A high-level delegation from the Vietnam People's Army, led by General Nguyen Trong Nghia, a member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Central Committee, and Director of the General Department of Politics, began an official visit to Laos on the afternoon of August 5 in the capital, Vientiane. This visit aims to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of party and political work between the militaries of Vietnam and Laos. This enhanced cooperation is built upon the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. In particular, maintaining ideological integrity within the armed forces and securing ideological strongholds under the Party's leadership are crucial tasks for the Communist Party of Vietnam, and this visit reaffirms their importance through collaboration with the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Both countries have a history of close cooperation in defense, with regular joint activities such as border defense cooperation exchanges. The current visit seeks to further deepen these existing cooperative ties and contribute to regional peace and stability. Under Vietnam's one-party system, maintaining the Party's leadership and unifying national ideology are fundamental to state governance, with the military serving as a key instrument. Laos, also a socialist state, similarly emphasizes Party leadership, making military cooperation an essential element for the stability of bilateral relations.
