Phnom Penh Authorities Arrest Suspect for Stealing Public Power Cables Midday
Phnom Penh authorities have arrested a man for attempting to steal public power cables in broad daylight. Acting on an urgent tip from citizens, military police apprehended the suspect red-handed at the scene. The suspect and seized evidence have been sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for further legal proceedings.
On July 23, 2026, at approximately 12:40 PM, an individual was arrested in Phnom Penh for attempting to steal public power cables. The incident occurred near the intersection of Street 566 and Street 337 in Village 2, Group 6, Sangkat Boeung Kak Pir, Khan Toul Kork. Following an urgent tip received from citizens via the hotline number 1291, the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie, stationed in Toul Kork District, promptly dispatched forces to the scene. They successfully apprehended one suspect red-handed, identified as Buth Thidon, a 46-year-old male construction worker. Several items believed to be used in the commission of the crime were also confiscated from the location. Currently, the suspect along with the related evidence has had a case file compiled by the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie and has been transferred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to proceed with legal procedures.
