Cambodia Promotes Sustainable Agriculture: Sharing Best Practices for Biochar Vinegar and Organic Fertilizers

On September 3-4, 2026, H.E. Dr. Yang Saing Koma, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, led a workshop to share results and experiences from farmer-led experiments in Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces. The workshop aimed to evaluate the outcomes of practical applications using biochar vinegar and organic fertilizers in cultivation. The event was attended by H.E. Khat Sothy, Undersecretary of State representing the provincial Departments of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Battambang and Banteay Meanchey, as well as representatives from the Climate Resilient Agricultural Livelihoods (PCRL) project for rice communities around Tonle Sap Lake, commune agricultural officials, and other stakeholders. Through these practical experiments, farmers and commune agricultural officials have gained new knowledge and experiences that can be applied and disseminated to other farmers. This work also contributes to improving the quality and safety of agricultural products, protecting the environment, and safeguarding consumer health. For future plans, the Ministry and relevant parties will focus on expanding dissemination and practical demonstrations, with a particular emphasis on vegetable and rice production that reduces or eliminates reliance on chemical agricultural pesticides. The promotion of techniques that enhance soil health will also be prioritized.
