Two repeat offenders arrested for factory theft in Cambodia

In Kampong Speu province, central Cambodia, two individuals have been arrested for repeatedly stealing copper wires from factories. The arrested individuals, identified as Hun San (30) and Nee Ngat (18), are both unemployed. They are suspected of stealing copper wires from brick and charcoal production factories in Phnom Sruoch district, along with three other accomplices, and selling them for cash. According to local police, the incidents occurred multiple times since late August. The affected Yong De Xin factory reported the theft of tens of meters of copper wire, one water pump, and two brick manufacturing belt motors on August 30th. Another incident on September 5th involved the theft of approximately 100 meters of copper wire from a different factory. The affected factories filed police reports, requesting an investigation. Police confirmed that the arrested individuals have confessed to the thefts. They admitted to stealing copper wires from the brick factory twice and from the charcoal factory twice between late August and early September. Police have confiscated what are believed to be the insulation materials of the stolen copper wires and are continuing their investigation. This incident highlights the increasing reliance on infrastructure amidst Cambodia's economic growth and the associated rise in criminal risks.
