The head of the Gontor Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia reported receiving an award from the President for exemplary tax compliance, during the school's 100th anniversary celebration.
PONOROGO - The head of the Modern Pondok Darussalam Gontor, KH Hasan Abdullah Sahal, conveyed to President Prabowo Subianto that Gontor had just received an award because it was considered disciplined in fulfilling its tax obligations. Hasan conveyed this at the 100th Anniversary Thanksgiving Reception of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo, East Java, Saturday, September 19, 2026. "By the way, Pak, a few weeks ago Gontor received the greatest tax certificate," said KH Hasan. He said the award was given because Gontor was considered orderly in tax affairs. "So these pondok children get a reward because they are the most disciplined in taxation, sir," he said. KH Hasan then slipped a joke to the students. "You sleep, but I pay," he said. According to KH Hasan, tax compliance is part of the responsibility of Gontor as an institution that has been engaged in the field of education for a century. He said that Gontor alumni are now spread across various institutions, including the government, legislature, judiciary, and various other fields. "This is Gontor. Donating history, our alumni also contribute, our children are in these institutions, we are nurturing this community," said KH Hasan. He emphasized that Gontor also tried to keep the tax administration orderly. "Alhamdulillah in taxation, God willing we will not violate, God willing, it is neat, and we have received awards." The statement was delivered at the end of KH Hasan's speech at the commemoration of the centenary of Gontor which was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto.
