National online job exchange launched to strengthen labour market connectivity

The National online job exchange, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing labor market connectivity, is set to be launched in Vietnam. This platform is designed to strengthen the link between job seekers and employers nationwide, contributing to the improvement of the national workforce's quality. Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has emphasized the critical need for a fundamental shift from "simple labor" to "creative labor," alongside enhancing the quality of the national workforce. This transformation is considered the most crucial goal and measure under Politburo's Resolution No. 57 for the new development phase. The initiative aligns with the government's broader strategy to modernize the economy and adapt to evolving global demands. In parallel, efforts are underway to improve the employment conditions for Vietnamese workers abroad. An agreement with Albania ensures Vietnamese laborers there receive equal treatment in labor relations, wages, working conditions, and welfare benefits in accordance with Albanian law. However, the domestic labor market faces its own set of challenges. Textile and seafood exporters are reportedly struggling to retain enough workers to meet recovering export demand, indicating a shift in constraints from demand to workforce capacity. This highlights a potential bottleneck in Vietnam's export-driven growth. Digital transformation remains a key focus. The "Digital Literacy for All" movement is being expanded in Dong Nai province, empowering communities through grassroots initiatives. Furthermore, Vietnam is integrating its national fisheries database (Vnfishbase) with the VNeID digital identification platform to enhance traceability and management. Despite progress, 36 fishing vessels remain disconnected from the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) network and are under investigation. International cooperation is also a priority. The "Australia Corner" in Can Tho aims to foster climate adaptation solutions in the Mekong Delta by leveraging Can Tho University's research expertise and connecting Australian and Vietnamese partners. Can Tho city hosts several Australian-invested projects and sees active trade with Australia. The launch of the national online job exchange is a strategic move by Vietnam's one-party system to exert centralized control over labor market development, aiming for efficient resource allocation and human capital enhancement to sustain its economic growth trajectory. This is particularly relevant as Vietnam navigates its complex relationship with China, seeking to bolster its domestic economic resilience and competitiveness.
