KRL Derails at Jakarta Kota Station, Passengers Evacuated, Commute Disrupted
A Commuter Line train (KRL) derailed at Jakarta Kota Station in the heart of the capital, prompting the evacuation of passengers. The incident caused significant disruptions to morning commute services, leading to route adjustments on certain lines.
A Commuter Line train (KRL) derailed at Jakarta Kota Station on Friday (September 4, 2026), prompting the evacuation of passengers and causing significant disruptions during the morning commute. According to Leza Arlan, Manager of Public Relations for KAI Commuter, KRL No. 1203 derailed as it was entering track 9 at Jakarta Kota Station. Arlan confirmed that all passengers on board were safely evacuated and are in good condition. The incident led to delays for trains scheduled to enter Jakarta Kota Station. Relevant personnel and a rescue train have been dispatched to the scene to manage the situation. As of 8:44 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB), passengers traveling from Jakarta Kota Station towards Bogor are temporarily being served only by tracks 10 or 11. KAI Commuter has also implemented route adjustments for KRL services originating from Bogor. These trains will now only operate up to Jayakarta Station and Manggarai Station before returning to Bogor. Commuters are advised to follow instructions from station staff and monitor operational updates via the official social media account @commuterline or the C-Access application. Observations at 9:08 AM WIB indicated that train speeds were reduced from normal, with longer stopping times at each station. This is believed to be a measure to avoid congestion and manage train movements while the recovery operations at Jakarta Kota Station are underway. Despite the disruptions, severe passenger overcrowding was not observed at Citayam Station, Depok Station, or Depok Baru Station, with passenger flow and waiting areas appearing relatively normal. KRL services are a vital mode of transportation for many commuters in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. This derailment incident, occurring during peak hours, has caused temporary but considerable inconvenience to daily travelers, highlighting the fragility of urban public transport systems.
