Cambodia and OIF Sign 5-Year Action Plan to Boost French Education
Cambodia has signed a five-year action plan with the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) to promote and improve the quality of French language education within the country. The plan includes curriculum review, textbook development, and teacher training.
Cambodia and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) have signed a five-year action plan to support French language education within the Kingdom of Cambodia. This agreement marks a significant step towards enhancing educational quality and strengthening international cooperation. The signing ceremony took place on August 5, 2026, with His Excellency Lou Davith, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the French Republic, representing His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport. Mr. Désiré Nyaruhirira, Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the OIF and Acting Representative of the OIF Representation for Asia-Pacific, also signed on behalf of the organization. The action plan, under the cooperation between the OIF and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, will focus on several key areas: 1. Reviewing the French language curriculum for French-Khmer bilingual classes, including primary and secondary levels, and for science subjects taught in French. 2. Redesigning the core French textbooks for these bilingual classes and science subjects. 3. Developing the capacity of French language teachers and teachers of science subjects in French to effectively use the new textbooks. 4. Establishing a French language capacity development platform on the OIF's educational portal for Cambodian teachers. 5. Preparing a package for French language capacity development to enhance the capabilities of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. 6. Facilitating the voluntary dispatch of French language teachers to Cambodia. The signing of this cooperation agreement reflects the shared commitment of Cambodia and the OIF to promote the French language, enhance the quality of French language teaching and learning, and foster quality education.
