Moscow Restaurant Blast Kills and Injures; Ukraine War Link Suspected

An explosion at a restaurant in Moscow has resulted in at least three deaths and 21 injuries. The improvised explosive device was reportedly carried by a woman who was intercepted by security personnel before the blast. Social media speculation links the attack to the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The explosion occurred shortly before 8 PM near an Italian restaurant located within a prominent Stalin-era skyscraper. According to Russia's National Antiterrorism Committee, an unidentified woman attempted to enter the restaurant carrying an explosive device but was intercepted by security officers. The committee stated that the woman, along with the security officer who apprehended her and one diner inside the restaurant, died instantly at the scene. REN TV reported that two of the injured individuals transported to the hospital for emergency treatment also succumbed to their severe wounds, potentially bringing the total death toll to five. However, Russian authorities have not yet officially confirmed the exact number of fatalities. REN TV also indicated that six people remain in critical condition. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and vowed to apprehend those responsible for the incident. He stated in a release that this "brutal terrorist attack" occurred in Moscow, and armed law enforcement officers cordoned off the area. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the deceased or injured. Some sources on social media claim that the target of the attack was a high-ranking Russian military official, though this individual was reportedly not injured in the incident. Russia has pledged to enhance security for its military officials this year, following a series of assassinations and attempted assassinations of several generals.
