Cambodian PM Hun Manet Welcomes Expansion of Vocational Training in Private Schools

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has welcomed the expansion of vocational and technical education and training (TVET) by private schools. This initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, aims to create quality opportunities and build capacity for citizens, particularly the youth. Prime Minister Hun Manet made these remarks during the graduation ceremony for students of South-East Asia University on July 21, 2026, held at the Sokha Hotel in Siem Reap. "I welcome the additional efforts in organizing and expanding the vocational and technical education and training (TVET) sector by the private sector, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, to create quality opportunities and capacity for citizens, so that our youth have the chance to learn," stated Prime Minister Hun Manet. He added that this opens up perspectives for the government to ensure quality. Furthermore, the Prime Minister urged all private schools to focus on ensuring students possess adequate skills before graduation, rather than competing solely on quantity. He emphasized that genuine quality assurance and job expansion require competency, and investment in healthcare is also crucial. He also welcomed participation from both domestic and international private sectors. This development underscores Cambodia's focus on developing a skilled workforce as it aims for economic growth and enhanced competitiveness in the global market. The involvement of the private sector in education and training is expected to diversify access to skills development, potentially enabling more citizens to benefit from economic progress.
