Cambodia: Cell Tower Construction Worker Falls 35 Meters to Death

A tragic accident occurred in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where a 30-year-old worker fell approximately 35 meters to his death while installing a cell tower antenna. The incident took place on September 14, 2026, around 3:10 PM in a plot of land in Sak Sampov village, Sangkat Sak Sampov, Khan Dangkor. The victim, identified as Khan Vuthy, 30, hailed from Kien Svay district, Kandal province. According to fellow workers, Vuthy was ascending the antenna pole to connect additional steel structures. About 10 minutes later, a commotion arose as Vuthy was found to have fallen to the ground. Colleagues mentioned they had not paid particular attention to whether he was wearing a safety harness before he began working. Following the accident, specialized police officers and a forensic doctor examined the scene and confirmed that Vuthy died from severe head and body trauma sustained from the fall. His body has been handed over to his family for traditional funeral rites in his hometown. This incident underscores the persistent challenges in ensuring worker safety within Cambodia's construction sector, particularly as infrastructure development accelerates. It highlights the urgent need for stringent safety measures in high-altitude work and for raising workers' safety awareness.
