Cambodia: Ministry of Labor Intervenes in Garment Factory Dispute

Following a protest by workers at JS LEATHER COLLECTION PHNOM PENH CO., LTD. (JS Leather Company) near the capital, Phnom Penh, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has intervened to resolve the situation. According to the Ministry's spokesperson, upon receiving information about the workers' protest at the factory located in Kakap 2nd District, Por Sen Chey District, on the morning of August 3rd, specialized officials from the Ministry were immediately dispatched to the site. These officials are currently interviewing both the workers and the factory representatives to gather additional information and are working to facilitate a resolution in accordance with existing labor law procedures. "Currently, specialized officials are continuing to collect information and review the requests from the parties involved before taking further action according to legal procedures. In general, we never overlook the issues of our workers. Specialized officials will strive to resolve them quickly and in a timely manner," the spokesperson stated. The Ministry of Labor emphasized that it always prioritizes resolving labor disputes based on the principles of dialogue, respect for the law, and the protection of the legal interests of all parties involved, aiming for mutually acceptable solutions. The spokesperson appealed to the workers and all relevant parties to maintain calmness and cooperate with the specialized officials by providing comprehensive information to ensure an effective and lawful resolution process.
