Tropical Storm Kiyapo Claims 3 Lives, Affects Tens of Thousands in Philippines
Tropical Storm Kiyapo has caused the deaths of three individuals and affected over 285,000 people across the Philippines. More than 2,500 families are in evacuation centers, with the government providing assistance.
MANILA, Philippines — Three individuals died from the effects of Tropical Storm Kiyapo (international name Noul), said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday. According to the NDRRMC in its latest situation report, one of the deaths occurred in Davao, while the other two happened in Sarangani. The NDRRMC, however, said the two deaths in Sarangani are still being validated. Meanwhile, one other individual is currently listed as “missing” also in Sarangani. More than 59,000 families or over 285,000 individuals have been affected by Kiyapo so far, of which over 2,500 families are currently inside evacuation centers. The NDRRMC said the government has already provided P5.5 million worth of assistance to those affected by the weather disturbance. /apl
