Vietnam's Central Region Suffers Severe Flood Damage, Evacuation and Recovery Efforts Urgently Needed

Vietnam's central region has suffered extensive damage in several provinces and cities due to heavy rains as of 5 PM on September 12, according to the Directorate for Flood and Storm Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In response, the National Civil Defense Steering Committee has requested localities to continue closely monitoring flood and storm developments, proactively relocate residents from dangerous areas, manage traffic at flooded and landslide-prone spots, and prepare personnel and vehicles for response and recovery efforts. Localities are also urged to organize strict duty shifts and regularly report to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee (via the Directorate for Flood and Storm Control). This series of disasters highlights the impact of climate change and the vulnerability of Vietnam to natural calamities. The country has been grappling with increasingly frequent extreme weather events like typhoons and floods in recent years, with the central coastal region being particularly susceptible due to its geographical location.
