Cambodia Braces for Triple Tropical Cyclone Impact: Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Expected

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on August 6, 2026, that a new tropical depression has formed, which will combine with two existing tropical cyclones to bring the influence of three weather systems to Cambodia simultaneously. The impact is expected to continue from August 6 to August 15. The affected systems include tropical cyclone 'Dolphin' (T2613) and tropical cyclone 'Kujira' (T2614). The newly formed tropical depression 'Chan-hom' (T2615) developed from a low-pressure system over the western Pacific Ocean. These systems are strongly influencing the southwest monsoon that blows over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia is not directly in the path of these three cyclones. According to the Ministry's announcement, from August 6 to August 15, 2026, the weather conditions in various regions of Cambodia are predicted to include rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms with varying probabilities: In the plains, including provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, and Svay Rieng, as well as Phnom Penh capital, there is a 40% chance of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. In the highlands, including provinces such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains, there is a 60% chance of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. In coastal areas, including provinces such as Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountains, there is a 70% chance of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Coastal areas are also expected to experience strong waves, with average wave heights ranging from a minimum of 0.50 meters to a maximum of 1.75 meters.
