Three Foreigners Arrested in Cambodia for Online Scam Operations

Three foreign nationals have been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, suspected of preparing for online scam activities. The authorities in the 7 Makara district of Phnom Penh apprehended the three individuals late at night while they were allegedly hiding equipment for criminal activities inside a vehicle. A significant number of mobile phones, believed to have been used for fraudulent purposes, were confiscated. This operation is part of a broader initiative led by Mr. Teng Sothul, the Governor of the 7 Makara district and head of the district's administrative command. The crackdown targets foreign residents, aiming to investigate their living situations and eradicate criminal activities, particularly online scams. Governor Teng Sothul stated that this effort is in line with the directives of Phnom Penh City Governor Khuong Sreng, who has instructed all 14 districts in the capital to conduct regular, synchronized inspections to eliminate technology-based crimes, thereby establishing Phnom Penh as a "white economic zone."
