PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that its very large crude carrier (VLCC) Pertamina Pride has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint. "Following the success of the Gamsunoro ship, the Pertamina Pride ship has also exited the Arabian Gulf area and passed through the Strait of Hormuz, last night. This means both PIS-owned ships, which have been held since last March, can now resume their journey and operate as usual," said PIS Acting Corporate Secretary Vega Pita on Wednesday (8/7). The Pertamina Pride began its movement on Tuesday (7/7) at 13:00 Dubai time (16:00 WIB) and successfully passed through the critical area and the Strait of Hormuz at 00:15 WIB on Wednesday (8/7). Similar to the tanker Gamsunoro, the timing and route selection for Pertamina Pride's transit through the Strait of Hormuz involved rigorous risk assessment and evaluation of dozens of requirements. These included insurance, technical and operational aspects, security, and crew readiness, leading to the decision for the ship to begin its movement from the Arabian Gulf. Throughout the voyage, the ship was monitored 24/7, with the crew coordinating closely with the PIS crisis center on land to ensure navigational safety. Pita explained that all crew members of the Pertamina Pride are safe and well. The tanker, with a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, has now continued its journey to Cilacap to deliver its cargo and support national energy resilience. The Pertamina Pride is estimated to have a journey of 15 days and is expected to arrive in Indonesia on July 23.
