Cambodia Sees Over 800 New Factories, 90,000+ Jobs Created in First Half of Year

In the first half of 2026, Cambodia has witnessed a significant expansion in its industrial sector, with the establishment of 845 new factories. This development has consequently generated over 90,000 new job opportunities for the Cambodian populace, underscoring the nation's robust investment climate and its persistent attractiveness to investors. Sun Messa, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, confirmed on August 5th, 2026, that the total number of factories in Cambodia increased from 46,649 to 47,494 during the first six months of the year. This notable increase has translated into the creation of more than 90,000 new employment positions for citizens. The garment and footwear sectors, along with manufacturers of travel goods and bags, which are key components of the industrial landscape, saw a rise from 2,725 to 2,890 factories. Messa attributed this positive trend to the steadfast confidence that both domestic and international investors place in Cambodia. He further emphasized that the government's proactive policies aimed at stimulating investment have proven effective, even in the face of prevailing global economic unpredictability. "Despite the ongoing global economic uncertainties, Cambodia continues to successfully attract investment, expand its factory base, and create new employment opportunities. This growth is a direct reflection of the confidence investors have in Cambodia's peace, political stability, supportive investment policies, and its skilled labor force," Messa stated. The spokesperson also pointed to the creation of over 90,000 new jobs in the first half of 2026 as tangible proof of Cambodia's ongoing commitment to generating employment for its people and solidifying the groundwork for sustained economic development. In a related appeal, the Ministry of Labour spokesperson encouraged Cambodian citizens and former migrant workers to explore domestic employment options. They were advised to utilize job fairs or contact the helpline at 1297 to find positions offering adequate remuneration, ensuring safe working conditions, upholding labor rights, and providing social benefits as mandated by law. This initiative aims to steer individuals away from potentially risky and financially burdensome overseas employment.
