Cambodia-Australia Air Forces Discuss Cooperation, Human Resource Development

General Sing Samnang, Commander of the Cambodian Air Force, met with Major General Steve Peces, Deputy Commander of the Royal Australian Air Force, on September 9th to discuss strengthening cooperation and human resource development between the two air forces. According to the Information Department of the Ministry of National Defense, this meeting was a sideline meeting held during the official visit of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Tea Seiha, to Australia from September 6th to 10th. A brief press release from the Ministry of National Defense's Information Department stated that the discussions focused on continuing to strengthen defense cooperation and bilateral engagement between the air forces of both countries, particularly in human resource development, capacity building, and training, as well as exploring opportunities for institutional-level experience exchange and cooperation. Sources indicate that the Cambodian and Australian air force leaders also discussed future directions and frameworks for cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to further enhance defense relations and long-standing friendship, foster mutual understanding, and promote practical cooperation between the Cambodian Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. The Ministry of National Defense highlighted that the official visit of the head of national defense to Australia will serve to reconfirm the friendly relations and historical ties, especially the progressively developing military cooperation between the two countries. This strengthening of relations is seen as aligning with the policies of both the Cambodian and Australian governments, which aim to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a 'Comprehensive Partnership' in the near future. Cambodia and Australia officially established diplomatic relations in 1952, and by 2026, their bilateral relationship will reach its 74th anniversary.
