Mae Sai Man Charged for Destroying Flood Barrier, Town's Safety at Risk

Local authorities in Mae Sai, a border town in northern Thailand, have filed a formal police report against a local property owner for repeatedly destroying critical flood barriers along the Sai River. The man, who owns the Mae Sai Complex, has allegedly dismantled the protective sandbags on multiple occasions over the past few months, claiming he wants to ensure a clear pathway directly to his building. These actions are said to severely compromise the safety of surrounding residential neighborhoods. Mae Sai District Chief had previously issued verbal warnings and stationed guards at the site, but the property owner's disruptive behavior persisted. Fresh damage to the vital flood walls discovered during a recent period of heavy rainfall finally pushed local officials to take serious legal action. Mae Sai Mayor Anucha Yodchiangkham deemed further warnings ineffective and officially submitted a complaint to the local police chief.
