Cambodia Discusses Investment Expansion with China's Wuxi City, Promotes Sihanoukville SEZ Development

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) held discussions with a delegation from Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China, to explore opportunities for further investment in the Kingdom. The meeting took place on July 31 at the CDC headquarters in Phnom Penh, with His Excellency Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee of the CDC, and his colleagues meeting with Mr. Zhou Wendong, Deputy Mayor of Wuxi City, and his delegation. His Excellency Chea Vuthy extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed his delight at the visit of the Wuxi City Deputy Mayor to the Kingdom of Cambodia. He also conveyed his gratitude to the leaders and people of Wuxi City for their continuous efforts in promoting and supporting investors from Wuxi City to invest in Cambodia, particularly within the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SEZ). His Excellency also highlighted the importance of accelerating the construction of the "Industrial and Technological Corridor" and the "Fisheries and Rice Corridor" in attracting investment, noting that the Cambodian government is paying close attention to diversifying markets for Cambodian export goods. Concurrently, His Excellency requested the Deputy Mayor's support in further promoting the development of the Sihanoukville SEZ to achieve even greater growth and prosperity. His Excellency expressed strong confidence that through this meeting, the leadership of Wuxi City will continue to encourage investors from Wuxi City to invest more in Cambodia, especially in increasing investment in the production of raw materials or semi-finished goods to ensure supply chain stability. Mr. Zhou Wendong, Deputy Mayor of Wuxi City, thanked His Excellency Secretary General for his valuable time in receiving the delegation. He also expressed his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia, relevant ministries, local authorities, and the CDC for their consistent support in the operations of the Sihanoukville SEZ, which has led to its steady development. Mr. Zhou Wendong also affirmed his commitment to further advancing the SEZ by encouraging Chinese investors, particularly those from Jiangsu Province and Wuxi City, to invest in prioritized, high-potential, and cutting-edge projects. Mr. Zhou Wendong further noted that this visit to Cambodia is linked to the preparations for the 5th meeting of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone Coordination Committee, which is scheduled to be held in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China, in the near future. Before concluding, Mr. Zhou Wendong raised several proposals aimed at further enhancing the development and attractiveness of the Sihanoukville SEZ.
