Thai Gov't Denies PM Delaying NBTC Chairman Selection Amid Accusations

The Thai government has strongly refuted accusations that the Prime Minister is intentionally delaying the selection process for the chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). A government spokesperson stated that the matter has not yet reached the Prime Minister's desk and urged against speculation that could mislead the public. According to the spokesperson, the NBTC chairman selection process is currently at the stage of the selection committee and has not yet reached the phase requiring the Prime Minister's consideration. Legal procedures dictate that the selection committee first notifies the President of the Senate of its resolution, which is then forwarded to the Office of the Prime Minister. Only after the Office of the Prime Minister receives this will it be submitted for the Prime Minister to propose for royal endorsement. "The accusation that the Prime Minister is delaying or intending to delay the selection is inconsistent with the facts and demonstrates a lack of understanding of the legal procedures. At this moment, the process has not yet entered the Prime Minister's purview. Such information dissemination is bound to cause public misunderstanding," the spokesperson said.
