Lao Red Cross President Discusses Strengthening Cooperation with Thai Ambassador

On September 2, 2026, in Vientiane Capital, Mr. Khamlavanh Chanthalavanh, President of the Lao Red Cross, received Ms. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Lao PDR, for a courtesy call to discuss bilateral cooperation. Mr. Khamlavanh warmly welcomed the Thai ambassador and expressed appreciation for her visit, stating it would contribute to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Laos and Thailand and their peoples. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Thailand for its continued assistance to the Lao PDR, which he said has helped strengthen the two countries’ good-neighbourly relations. Ms. Krongkanit expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and reception extended by the Lao Red Cross president. Separately, President Thongloun Sisoulith led a Lao delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, from August 31 to September 1, marking Laos’ first participation as an official SCO Dialogue Partner. On August 31, President Thongloun Sisoulith also met with Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), on the sidelines of the SCO Plus meeting. On the occasion of the 81st National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 2026), Lao leaders sent a joint congratulatory message to their Vietnamese counterparts, extending warm sentiments of comradeship and brotherhood. These concurrent diplomatic activities highlight Laos' strategic approach to balancing its relationships with key regional and international partners. The engagement with the Thai Ambassador focuses on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in humanitarian and social development sectors through the Red Cross.
