Father-Son Duo Arrested in Bali for Motorcycle Theft Spree Linked to Online Gambling

The Denpasar Barat Police in Bali have arrested a father and son, aged 44 and 25 respectively, for allegedly stealing 12 motorcycles across Denpasar city and Badung regency. The duo reportedly resorted to theft to fund their online gambling habits. The investigation began on Monday, July 20, following a report of a stolen Yamaha NMAX motorcycle from a hotel basement in Denpasar Barat. The victim received a WhatsApp message from the renter stating the motorcycle was missing. After processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses, the police identified the suspects and apprehended them at their residence in North Denpasar on the same day. During interrogation, the father and son admitted to stealing motorcycles that were not secured with handlebar locks, pushing them away by foot while riding another motorcycle. They confessed that the stolen motorcycles were sold through online marketplaces using a cash-on-delivery (COD) system. The proceeds were used to cover daily living expenses and for online gambling. In addition to the hotel incident, the suspects admitted to committing similar thefts at several other locations, bringing the total to 12 crime scenes. Seven of these were within the jurisdiction of the Denpasar Barat Police, while the remaining five occurred outside their jurisdiction, including two in Dalung, Badung regency. The suspects are currently detained at the Denpasar Barat Police Station for further legal proceedings.
