Mekong, July 17 A motorcycle spare parts shop in Taung Ni village, Maing Thaw East Administrative Circle, Taunggyi Township, Southern Shan State, was searched and its owner arrested by a joint team of departments under the Military Council, who claimed that illegal goods were being sold there. The joint team, which included the Criminal Investigation Department and the Customs Department, entered and inspected the shop on July 13 and found illegal Chinese-made motorcycle spare parts, according to a statement released by the Military Council. The value of the seized motorcycle spare parts is over 64 million kyats, and the shop manager, Nyan Lin, has also been arrested and detained, it is known. "While it is correct to take legal action against illegal goods, searches and arrests like this are causing more concern among traders. It is also necessary to thoroughly investigate how the goods entered and who permitted them. Goods have been entering through the border for many years.
