KIDAPAWAN CITY — The distribution of P1,000 education subsidy for students in public schools here went smoothly without a program, the presence of politicians, and even officials from the Department of Education (DepEd). Personnel from the City Treasurer’s Office handed over on Wednesday the education subsidy for kindergarten and senior high school students enrolled in various public schools in the city. To date, 63 of 76 public schools in the city had submitted their lists of learners, which were the basis for the release of the education subsidy. For the 2026-2027 school year, the city government had allotted P1,500 education subsidy for each student enrolled in public elementary and secondary schools. The remaining P500 will be released during the third quarter of the school year to ensure the money will be used for the schooling needs of the learners. The education subsidy in Kidapawan City started at P300 per learner during the incumbency of then-Mayor Joseph Evangelista, now 2nd District Board Member of the Province of Cotabato. It was increased to P500 when Mayor Jose Paolo Evangelista assumed office in 2022, and raised this year to P1,500. The city government allocated P64 million as education subsidy for public school students this year, which is funded through the city’s Special Education Funds. Jing Mudoc thanked the city government for enhancing the cash subsidy program for public school students. Mudoc said because of the subsidy, she was able to purchase a new school bag, extra uniform, and extra school supplies for her elementary-level children. According to her, the education subsidy is a big help to parents who have been exerting much effort to support and sustain their children’s school needs.
