The Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (OMPPO) said the surrender took place on June 27 at the headquarters of the 4th Platoon, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) in Barangay Lumangbayan, San Teodoro. The former rebel, identified only by the alias “Ibara,” 60, is a barangay tanod and resident of Sitio Batangasan, Barangay Dulangan II, in Baco town. Police said he was previously affiliated with the Samahang Yunit Propaganda (SYP) under SRMA 4D, ISLACOM, Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC), which operated in parts of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro. Authorities said the surrender resulted from sustained dialogue, community engagement, and coordination among the 1st PMFC and partner law enforcement and security agencies aimed at persuading former CTG members to abandon armed struggle. Oriental Mindoro Police Director Col. Edison V. Revita said voluntary surrenders reflect the success of community-based peace efforts and provide former rebels with an opportunity to rebuild their lives. “We recognize that choosing to leave armed struggle behind is never an easy decision. To those who have decided to return to the fold of the law, know that the Philippine National Police, together with our partner agencies, is ready to extend every possible assistance to help you rebuild your life and reintegrate into society,” Revita said. He also urged remaining members of armed groups to surrender, saying peace and security are best achieved by giving individuals the opportunity for a fresh start.
