US Court Overturns Trump Administration's Ban on Media Access to White House

Washington D.C.: A federal judge has finally ruled against the ban imposed by the former US President Donald Trump on three news organizations from entering the White House, declaring it invalid. The judge ordered that CNN, MSNBC, and Politico be granted access to the White House as before. Judge Timothy Kelly deemed the ban to be a violation of the media organizations' rights, citing that the three affected entities had not received prior notification of the ban and had not been given an opportunity to contest it in court. They were suddenly prohibited from entering the White House. Judge Kelly based his decision on the fundamental legal principle that the US government cannot revoke constitutionally protected rights without providing individuals with a prior opportunity to object. The general rule is that individuals must receive advance notice and have a chance to litigate before the government denies them. This ruling mandates that the government must immediately and fully reinstate the normal access rights to the White House for these three news organizations. At the time, Donald Trump had announced the ban, citing that these media outlets were producing "fake news." He had also warned of the possibility of extending similar bans to other news organizations. However, his administration has not foreclosed the right to appeal this court decision. In court, lawyers representing the Department of Justice argued that the ban was justified on national security grounds, citing instances including plans for underground shelter construction. However, lawyers representing the three media organizations stated that the government did not raise national security issues at the time of the ban, only bringing them up after the organizations filed their lawsuit. This judge's decision comes after nearly 50 news organizations joined forces to oppose Mr. Trump's measures.
