Jakarta Targets to Become National Coffee Industry Hub with ICX 2026
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government aims to position Jakarta as the main hub for the national coffee industry and a gateway to the global market, leveraging the Indonesia Coffee Expo (ICX) 2026. Capitalizing on its diverse coffee varieties and vibrant cafe culture, supported by economic stability, the city seeks to expand its reach internationally.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the capital to become the main node of the national coffee industry as well as the gateway for the promotion and trade of Indonesian coffee to the global market. The target was conveyed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung when opening the Indonesia Coffee Expo (ICX) Jakarta 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Jakarta, Friday, September 4. Pramono said that the wealth of varieties of Indonesian coffee, ranging from Gayo, Toraja, Kintamani to Mandailing, is a big capital to strengthen Indonesia's competitiveness in the international market if supported by planned collaboration. "So, events like this with more than 120 tenants, I believe this will make Jakarta, especially, be the main hub for Indonesian workers. Once again, Jakarta can be the main hub for Indonesian workers," said Pramono. According to him, the development of the downstream industry also strengthens Jakarta's position as a coffee business center. The growth of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants has involved nearly 193,000 business actors, driven by the increasing consumption of coffee culture among the community, especially the younger generation. "Supported by the stability of the Jakarta economy, which contributes 16.32 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product with a low inflation rate of 2.5 percent, the coffee business ecosystem has a very solid foundation to continue to grow," he said. Pramono also opened the opportunity for local government support so that Jakarta can again host the World of Coffee world coffee event before 2030. He stated that the DKI Provincial Government was ready to provide policy assistance and various facilities if the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia (SCAI) brought back the organization of the event to Jakarta, especially in May 2029. "If SCAI can hold the World of Coffee event in Jakarta before 2030, the DKI Provincial Government is ready to provide full support," said Pramono. The ICX Jakarta 2026 which was held on September 4-6 became a meeting space for various actors in the Indonesian coffee ecosystem, ranging from coffee farmers, brands, roasters, cafe managers, baristas, MSMEs, communities to coffee connoisseurs. A total of more than 115 brands participated in the ICX Jakarta event, which targeted 10,000 visitors with a potential transaction of up to Rp4 billion. President Director of PT Dyandra Promosindo Daswar Marpaung assessed that the Indonesian coffee industry showed strong optimism, both in terms of consumption and the increase in business actors in the industrial chain. "We hope that ICX Jakarta 2026 will be a momentum to bring together more stakeholders, open up business partnership opportunities, and encourage the birth of new ideas to strengthen the Indonesian coffee ecosystem," said Daswar. Meanwhile, SCAI Chairman Daryanto Witarsa said that ICX was designed as a platform that connects all the coffee industry chain, from farmers, baristas, processors to international buyers. "With the full support of the DKI Provincial Government, we are determined to expand our global partnership network and are committed to bringing the world coffee exhibition, World of Coffee, back to the capital before 2030," he explained.
