ASEAN Observers Investigate Civilian Damage Near Cambodia-Thailand Border

Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense announced that the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT) inspected a village in the northern part of Sra Am village, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province on the morning of August 6th. This village is the residential area of innocent civilians whose homes were destroyed by the Thai military forces. This is according to a press release from the Ministry of National Defense. The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia stated that the above location is not a military site but the homes of innocent civilians. In December 2025, the area was attacked by Thai military forces with bombings from F-16 fighter jets and multiple 155mm artillery shells, causing extensive destruction and damage to the homes, property of the people, and many civilian infrastructures. Cambodia reiterates its full support for the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT) and emphasizes the indispensable importance of strengthening the role and mandate of AOT to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, aiming to promote transparency, accountability, and mutual trust. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia remain firmly committed, loyal, and highly responsible in fully and most diligently respecting and implementing the joint declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the joint statement on the peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and other related agreements, in order to move towards rapid improvement and a return to normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term order.
