Prabowo Accelerates Free Education Plan from Early Childhood to University

President Prabowo of Indonesia has ordered the acceleration of a free education plan for public schools, covering early childhood to high school. This initiative will encompass approximately 164,000 public schools nationwide. Furthermore, the President indicated that plans for free tuition at state universities will be finalized within the next 2-4 weeks. This includes the single tuition fee (UKT) and entrance fees. The government's commitment to expanding educational access and improving quality is also evident in its special attention to Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren). A new Directorate General for Pesantren has been established within the Ministry of Religious Affairs to enhance support for these educational institutions and strengthen their role in the national education system.
