Vietnamese Youth in Dangerous Motorcycle Crash with Bus

In Hưng Yên province, on August 3rd, a young motorcyclist engaged in dangerous driving crashed into a turning bus on Quang Trung street, leaving him motionless on the road. According to witnesses, the man was not wearing a helmet and was speeding while weaving erratically. The traffic incident was captured on video by CTV. The footage shows the motorcycle, ridden by the young man, colliding head-on with the bus, causing him to be thrown onto the street. His condition following the impact is not yet clear. In Vietnam, motorcyclists are mandated to wear helmets. Specifically, dangerous maneuvers like weaving and high-speed riding pose significant risks to both the rider and other road users. According to Decree 168/2024, individuals who engage in weaving or dangerous driving maneuvers on motorcycles face fines ranging from 8 to 10 million VND. If an accident occurs, the fine increases to 10 to 14 million VND, coupled with a 10-12 month suspension of the driving license, and potential criminal charges. Violating vehicles may also be confiscated. Furthermore, the penalty for riding without a helmet is between 400,000 and 600,000 VND. A similar incident involving dangerous driving occurred on April 14th on the Nhật Tân Bridge in Hanoi, where a motorcycle carrying three people skidded and fell while weaving in the car lane.
