Vietnam Accelerates War Dead Memorialization and Remains Identification with Technology

As time passes, many memories of war gradually recede. However, thanks to the development of science and technology and the determination to identify the remains of those who sacrificed for the Fatherland, the journey of honoring war heroes continues to open opportunities for them to return to their homeland and families. More than 13,500 samples of remains of martyrs were handed over to appraisal centers. This signifies progress in identification efforts using scientific technologies such as DNA analysis. Support for the 2026 "Calling the Names of the Nation's Stars" campaign has exceeded 11 billion VND, demonstrating high public interest and support for commemorating fallen soldiers. Construction has also commenced on a memorial park for martyr Nguyen Van Thac and his comrades. These initiatives are part of a national project led by the Communist Party of Vietnam, aimed at showing respect to the soldiers who perished in past wars and their families. Under its one-party system, the state places importance on such memorial projects as symbols of preserving historical memory and fostering national unity. While Vietnam continues its economic growth, its approach to the historical legacy of past wars continues to shape national identity and social cohesion. Particularly for Vietnam, which has a complex relationship with China, such efforts to strengthen domestic unity are considered to contribute to national stability.
