6-Story Building Under Construction Collapses in Can Tho, One Worker Injured

A 6-story building under construction in Tan An ward, Can Tho City, southern Vietnam, unexpectedly collapsed on the afternoon of September 19th, resulting in one worker sustaining minor injuries. The incident occurred around 2 PM. During heavy rain, the second-floor concrete slab, which had been poured that morning, suddenly gave way. Three workers were on the floor at the time of the incident, but no one was working directly beneath the affected area. The injured worker was taken to Can Tho Central General Hospital. The project, a residential and office building, was privately funded with an estimated cost of VND 3 billion (approximately $127,000 USD). The structure was designed to be 6 stories high with a rooftop terrace and a reinforced concrete roof, standing 28.5 meters tall with a total floor area exceeding 1,100 square meters. According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Bao, Vice Chairman of the Tan An Ward People's Committee, the project received its construction permit in June. Initial investigations suggest that the scaffolding may not have had sufficient load-bearing capacity. Authorities have cordoned off the site and are investigating the cause of the collapse.
