Prosecution to Decide on Calling Duterte to Testify After Presenting Evidence
The prosecution in the Philippine House of Representatives' impeachment trial will decide whether to call Vice President Sara Duterte to testify only after completing the presentation of its evidence, according to a private prosecutor.
MANILA, Philippines — The House prosecution will complete the presentation of its evidence before deciding whether to call Vice President Sara Duterte to testify in her impeachment trial, private prosecutor Benjamin “Jay” Tolosa Jr. said Saturday. Speaking at the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City, Tolosa said prosecutors will first evaluate Duterte’s declared wealth against the evidence they have gathered. The impeachment complaint against Duterte stems from allegations of her failure to submit the required Certificate of Candidacy (COC) in the past and supposed perjury. Tolosa stressed that the decision to summon the Vice President as a witness would be made after the evidence presentation is concluded, depending on the strength of the evidence presented.
