Chonburi Officials Brief Parliament Committee on Foreign Business Practices in Pattaya, Over 14,000 Businesses Reviewed

PATTAYA: Chonburi provincial officials briefed a House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee delegation on the practices of foreign businesses and potential illegal nominees and land holding in Pattaya and Chonburi. Governor Naris Niramaiwong and Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngamphichet welcomed the delegation on Friday for a study visit on the monitoring and inspection of foreigners’ business rights in Thailand. Over 14,000 businesses and juristic persons in the area were reviewed for foreign involvement. The inspection aims to ensure that foreign business activities comply with Thai laws, particularly regarding illegal nominee arrangements and land ownership, which are often used to circumvent regulations. Chonburi province, and especially Pattaya, has a significant foreign resident and tourist population, with active foreign investment in various businesses. Provincial authorities are emphasizing the need to accurately understand the reality of foreign businesses and ensure strict adherence to legal regulations for the healthy development of the regional economy and the protection of domestic industries. The parliamentary committee's visit is understood to be part of a broader effort to assess foreign business operations across Thailand and to gather information for strengthening future regulations and oversight mechanisms.
