Vietnam Focuses on Search and Identification Efforts After Vessel Sinking

At its regular press briefing in Hanoi on the afternoon of July 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced updates on the ongoing search and identification efforts following the sinking of the Khoi Nguyen 18 vessel at sea. The incident underscores the continuous efforts by Vietnamese coastal authorities and the public to locate the missing, recover remains, and identify them. Ministry spokesperson stated that these activities gain particular significance ahead of the War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27), a national day of remembrance. As part of the nationwide "500-day-and-night campaign" to accelerate the search and identification of fallen soldiers, Dong Nai province has so far recovered over 100 sets of remains and collected DNA samples from more than 5,000 martyrs' graves. These efforts reflect the Vietnamese government's strong commitment to honoring the nation's past and preserving the memory of those who sacrificed their lives. The briefing also highlighted a joint memorial ceremony honoring Vietnamese and Lao martyrs, expressing tribute to those who gave their lives for the independence and liberation of both nations. Furthermore, Vietnam announced its intention to formulate a support scheme for low-income residents to replace aging motorcycles and mopeds that fail to meet emission standards.
