River Embankment Breached : Flood rescue operations underway in Laymyethna Township

Heavy rain and riverbank erosion caused a section of the Ngawon River embankment in Laymyethna Township of Ayeyawady Region, to collapse on the night of 30 July, resulting in flooding in parts of the town. The breach, about 20 feet long and four feet deep, occurred near Myitkyoe Wa Village in Thakutchaung Village-tract. Floodwaters entered Wards 4 and 5, as well as several roads, with water levels reaching up to five feet in some areas and inundating homes. Tatmadawmen from the Southwest Command, police force, firefighters, rescue teams, volunteer groups and local residents are carrying out evacuation and relief operations for affected communities. Officials also visited the flooded areas, provided relief supplies and food to displaced residents, and coordinated ongoing rescue and assistance efforts.
