VnExpress Marathon Nha Trang 2026 Attracts 10,000 Runners for 5th Edition
The VnExpress Marathon Nha Trang 2026 is set to host 10,000 runners for its fifth edition, making it one of the largest running events in Vietnam's central region. Participants will compete across four distances, with a course designed to showcase the city's scenic coastal routes and local attractions.
The VnExpress Marathon Nha Trang 2026, scheduled for August 9, 2026, is expected to attract 10,000 runners, marking its fifth edition and solidifying its position as one of the largest running events in Vietnam's central region for the year. Participants will compete across four distances: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. Beyond the 10,000 runners, thousands of relatives and friends are anticipated to visit Nha Trang, engaging in activities such as collecting race kits, exploring the Expo, and experiencing local tourism, cuisine, and culture. This influx is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the coastal city. Nguyen Van Nam, an engineer from Ho Chi Minh City and a participant in all four previous VM Nha Trang editions, stated that the event's unique appeal draws him back. The Nha Trang course is designed with over 60% of the route hugging the coastline, offering runners panoramic views of the ocean and the urban skyline. Nam highlighted the Luong Son Pass, despite its steep inclines, as an excellent test for runners aiming to push their limits. He also noted that Nha Trang consistently offers new tourist experiences annually, making it an ideal destination for a family trip before the new school year. The organizing committee has also finalized the race routes. All distances will start and finish at 2/4 Square. The 5km, 10km, and 21km routes will primarily utilize the coastal roads of Tran Phu and Pham Van Dong. The 42km marathon will include approximately 15km of city running, with the remainder tracing the coastline and the Luong Son Pass. Minor adjustments have been made to the pass section compared to the 2025 edition, with the route now avoiding a turn into a coastal urban area. With this course configuration, the iconic image of runners witnessing the sunrise over Nha Trang Bay is expected to be a highlight of the event. The organizing committee will provide 24 medical and water stations along the course to support the 10,000 participants. Forecasts for the morning of August 9 predict temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius, with cloudy skies and a possibility of light rain, conditions considered relatively favorable for running. This year's event introduces refreshed experiences through locally inspired memorabilia. The medals will feature, for the first time, an image of the ancient Cham Po Klong Garai Towers, over 700 years old, alongside the Tram Huong Tower and coastal landscape motifs. The race apparel will feature a bold, modern design with abstract geometric shapes and vibrant color combinations. This marks the fifth consecutive year Nha Trang hosts the VnExpress Marathon. The event has steadily grown since its inaugural edition in 2022 with 8,500 participants, reaching 11,000 in 2023 and a record 13,000 last year. The marathon has become a familiar August gathering for the running community. Source: VnExpress
