PHLPost Clarifies: Valid ID Not Required for Postal ID Application

Applying for a postal ID card is more fuss-free than you think. The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) clarified that Filipinos are not required to present an existing valid government-issued ID when applying for a Postal ID. Interested first-time applicants are only required to submit: a Barangay Certificate. Those who are unable to submit a barangay certificate may instead present a proof of address document, such as their latest electricity, water, internet, or other utility bill reflecting their name and current residential address. "The postal ID has always been intended to make it easier for Filipinos to establish their identity, especially those applying for their first government-issued ID," Postmaster General and CEO Maximo C. Sta. Maria III said in a press release. The postal ID is widely accepted for both public and private transactions, such as opening a bank account, applying for a passport, and other important transactions. Processing fees are P550 for regular processing and P650 for rush processing. Applicants may apply at several PHLPost branches nationwide.
