Amru Rice Cambodia to Double Organic Rice Procurement in Preah Vihear to 40,000 Tonnes

Preah Vihear province is strengthening its position as Cambodia’s “organic agriculture province” through expanded organic rice production, with Amru Rice Cambodia committing to double its procurement of organic paddy to 40,000 tonnes this year, valued at approximately US$12 million. The commitment was announced during the signing ceremony of contracts for the production and supply of organic rice and organic cassava held in Preah Vihear province on Aug. 7. In addition to the rice agreement, CACC also pledged to purchase 15,000 tonnes of organic cassava from agricultural communities in the province. Speaking at the event, Lok Oknha Song Saran, CEO of Amru Rice Cambodia, said the agreement represents more than a buyer-seller relationship, describing it as a partnership built on trust and shared responsibility for mutual growth. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to securing reliable markets for farmers, offering transparent pricing, strengthening product traceability, and promoting climate-resilient organic rice cultivation, stressing that the success of farmers is also the success of the company. Lok Oknha Song Saran also encouraged farmers to uphold honesty and mutual trust to foster long-term cooperation and enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian organic products in international markets. Preah Vihear Provincial Governor H.E. Kim Rithy expressed pride that Cambodia is further strengthening its competitive advantage in global markets through large-scale organic rice production in the province. He noted that Preah Vihear’s gross domestic product (GDP) stands at around US$400 million, with agriculture contributing approximately 50 percent. The Governor said the province produced more than 20,000 tonnes of organic rice worth around US$6 million in 2025. The company’s commitment to purchase 40,000 tonnes in 2026, valued at about US$12 million, will inject significant income directly into farming households and further stimulate the local economy. He also expressed hope that organic rice production would continue expanding, with the long-term vision of transforming Preah Vihear into a fully organic province. Also addressing the ceremony, H.E. Dr. Meas Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said Cambodia currently produces around 14 million tonnes of paddy rice annually under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, far exceeding domestic demand of about 5 million tonnes. He said the government’s next priority is to promote food safety while preserving land and water resources for future generations. Dr. Meas Piseth added that the Royal Government is addressing key challenges in the agricultural sector through its fifth and sixth priority policies, including measures to stabilise agricultural prices, the deployment of 1,600 commune agricultural officers nationwide, and the establishment of modern agricultural communities to improve productivity and sustainability.
