Philippines to Build Haven for Women and Children in Alabang

MANILA, Philippines — For countless women and children enduring violence, trauma and mental health crises, healing often begins with finding a safe place. By 2027, one such refuge will take shape within The Haven for Women compound in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, and is envisioned to become the country’s first community-based, trauma-informed Women and Children’s Crisis Center. The project aims to provide a crucial 'safe place' for women and children who have experienced violence, trauma, and mental health crises, enabling them to begin their healing journey. For years, securing safe and supportive environments for victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of abuse has been a significant challenge in the Philippines. This new center is expected to go beyond being a mere temporary shelter. It is designed to offer comprehensive support, including psychological care, counseling, legal assistance, and vocational training aimed at fostering independence. The initiative seeks to strengthen the support system for victims, helping them reintegrate into society and regain their dignity. Violence against women and children remains a pressing issue in the Philippines, with vulnerable populations, particularly those in poverty, being at higher risk. In this context, the proposed center, with its emphasis on community integration, holds the potential to serve as a new model for victim support services.
