Ho Chi Minh City Streets Turn into Rivers Amidst Heavy Downpour

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest southern metropolis, saw many of its main roads turn into 'rivers' following a localized heavy downpour in the evening. The sudden torrential rain exposed the limitations of the urban drainage system, severely impacting the transportation network. Large-scale traffic jams occurred across wide areas, particularly as the downpour coincided with the peak commuting hours, causing significant disruption to daily life. Ho Chi Minh City is experiencing a rapid population surge due to its fast-paced economic growth and urbanization. However, lagging infrastructure development, especially the aging and insufficient capacity of its drainage systems, is considered a contributing factor to the frequent occurrence of urban flooding. The Vietnamese government prioritizes economic growth and is investing in infrastructure.
